Lundy: Personal soundtrack Comments
This is perhaps the stupidest question you’ve ever been asked, but if HBO or ESPN or whoever put together a video of your life’s highlights in all your various pursuits, what music would you want playing in the background?
I was pondering that Sunday as I shoveled horse and goat manure; yes, it is amazing the things that pop into your head when you’re working with livestock feces.
Thinking in t erms of my baseball “highlights,” if that’s what you can call the accomplishments of a decent high school player who’s now been slogging through the Men’s Senior League for 16 seasons, I decided my top choice, for reasons I can’t actually explain, would be Foreigner’s “Feels Like the First Time.” It’s just easy for me to visualize myself making the occasional play, getting the occasional base hit, scoring the occasional run, etc., with that anthem of my youth providing the musical accompaniment.
Secondary possibilities: “More Than a Feeling,” by Boston; “Baba O’Riley,” the Who; “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” Traffic.
Of course, if I were a major league closer, I would definitely — definitely — want my intro music to be “Foolin,’” by Def Leppard.
