Lundy: Disposable clothes Comments
A few months down the road, when the weather gets a bit sunnier and warmer, our motorcycle group will set sail for Utah’s canyon country, our fourth adventure in as many years.
There are many keys, in addition to weather, to a fun trip: Health, safety, decent campgrounds, good asphalt, access to cold beer at the end of the day, avoidance of mechanical problems, etc. And we’ve pretty much had all of those on our first three tours.
And this year, I’m counting on a bonus I haven’t enjoyed since the first journey: Disposable clothes.
See, when you’re traveling by motorbike, you obviously have limited carrying capacity, and it’s sort of a nuisance carrying around sweat-soaked laundry for hundreds of miles. So ideally, when the time comes to start a trip, you have a collection of clothes sufficiently worn out that you can just toss them when they’re dirty.
The first trip, I had two holey pairs of Levis, one of which got left in the garbage at the Klamath Falls Taco Time, the other of which got tossed at the Hanley Ranch in Jordan Valley. That was way better than hauling them all the way home.
This year, I have enough tattered pairs of boxers to get me through our weeklong trip, and I’ll probably have at least one pair of disposable jeans and some throwaway socks and T-shirts as well.
Tricks of the trade.
