Lundy: Thursday Top 7 Comments
At our morning meeting Tuesday, news editor Kim Jackson asked editor Hasso Hering if he wanted the Oscar nominees on the front page.
“Naw, I don’t care about that,” he said, “but I know other people do, so that will be in the paper somewhere, right?”
Kim barely had a chance to answer in the affirmative before Hasso continued on the topic of the Oscars, sort of anyway.
“I wonder how many people there are in Albany named Oscar,” he said. “That’s a name out of the 1920s, like Max.
“Oscar,” Hasso said again, repeating the name for emphasis, a pleased tone in his voice.
Well, beyond former co-worker Oscar Hult, I can’t think of another Albany Oscar, but all of that Oscar talk did give me an idea for this week’s list: My Top 7 Oscars.
Here we go …

1. The Big O, Oscar Robertson.

2. Oscar Madison, played by Jack Klugman, from "The Odd Couple."

3. Negro Leagues great and Hall of Famer Oscar Charleston.

4. Owner of the most famous afro in major league history, Oscar Gamble.

5. Oscar the Grouch.

6. Oscar De La Hoya

7. Oscar Wilde.
