In case you didn’t know it, today’s wee hours ushered in the return to Standard Time, which of course meant moving the clocks back an hour last night.

I thought the whole clock-switching thing was a dumb idea when we “sprang forward” last spring, and in fact I’ve considered it ridiculous every time I’ve ever done it, for as long as I can remember.

Look, can’t we just pick one — Standard or Daylight Saving — and stick with it? This twice-a-year ritual accomplishes nothing. As news editor Kim Jackson and I always say, leave the clocks alone.

Last year at this time I “reprinted” in this space a column I wrote on the subject many years ago, and I still stand by everything I said then. If you’re interested in some expanded complaining on the subject of Daylight Saving Time, here it is.
